Edward Leroy Brown, 24, and Kanard Bishop, 26, were arrested and charged for an armed robbery on March 28, police announced on Friday, while the third suspect, 18-year-old Kahlill Boyd, is facing charges pending his extradition after being apprehended and held in Washington, DC.
All three are from the nation's capital.
Shortly after 3 p.m. on Thursday afternoon, detectives were surveilling a carjacked vehicle in the 5700 block of Silver Hill Road, which had been taken at gunpoint the day before on Brooks Drive in District Heights.
The suspects parked in front of a store, at which point Brown and Bishop got out, wearing masks, and they were followed by detectives into the store who found them behind the counter, armed with weapons.
The detectives identified themselves as police, at which point the two ran out of the back of the store and into the parking lot, ignoring demands to drop their guns.
Police say that Brown ran toward one of the responding detectives, who fired his weapon and struck him in the lower body. Officers provided aid to Brown, who was taken to an area hospital by paramedics and was later released. Bishop was arrested without incident.
Both of their weapons were recovered in the parking lot.
Boyd fled the scene in the carjacked car after striking an unmarked police vehicle. With an assist from a police helicopter and the Metropolitan Police Department, he was tracked to the 300 block of Anacostia Road in Southeast DC, where he was arrested.
Brown and Bishop were charged with armed robbery, assault, and weapons offenses. They are being held without bond in the custody of the Department of Corrections.
An arrest warrant for Boyd was issued charging him with armed robbery, assault, and weapons offenses. Additional charges for the trio are likely as the investigation into the incident and carjacking continues.
The officer involved in the shooting has been assigned to the Bureau of Investigation and with the agency since 2010. He has been placed on administrative leave.
